It was a warm and sunny morning at Woodland school this week. We did a short listening walk thinking particularly about how many and which birds we could hear.

We heard several examples of birdsong but were particularly aware of the bird call of the red kites. They were circling around the tall pine trees. The team at Basildon Park have made a new structure using pipes (guttering) that have been secured into a fallen tree trunk.

It allows for a ball to be rolled down it. Sadly the ball was missing so we set a challenge for the children to find something suitable to roll down the pipe. We experimented with beech nuts, fir cones, sticks and stones. We needed to use our problem solving skills. A medium sized round stone rolled the best from the top to the bottom. Mrs King
