Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Purley CE Primary School

Purley Church of England Primary School is an inclusive school and all staff:

· Do everything they can to meet the pupils’ special educational need

· Ensure the pupils with SEND engage in learning and activities alongside their peers

· Provide high-quality teaching, scaffolded for individual pupils

These aims reflect  our school vision of ‘Learn to love, love to learn’ and our ‘No Outsiders’ programme which recognise and embrace the diversity of our learners.

Miss Mosher is the Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo) and she works closely with all school staff and outside agencies to support and assess children as a need arises. She can be contacted via the school office.

At Purley Church of England Primary School, we use quality ‘wave one’ teaching to support all children to achieve both academically and in terms of their personal development. We recognise that some children may need additional strategies to support this development.  Some pupils may benefit from an individualised timetable, specifically planned and delivered input or 1:1 support, for example. Our long term aim is for all learners to feel ‘safe’ and able to access learning which promotes their development.

Being a small school, with 4 classes of mixed-age year groups, means that we know our pupils and families really well. All our pupils benefit from a bespoke approach, shaped by their needs and learning goals.

We are fortunate to benefit from a team of in-house professionals who support pupils with their learning and regularly engage with regular professional development. 1:1 Teaching Assistants, ELSAs (‘Emotional Learning Support Assistants) and Teaching Assistants trained in specific intervention programmes work alongside class teachers to provide individualised support. Resources accessible by all our pupils include iPads and Chromebooks with assistive technology, and reader pens to assist with reading.

Each child, who receives SEND support, has ‘SAP’ plan with relevant targets. In addition to this, parents are invited termly to discuss the support provided and progress made.

Where parents have any concerns about their child’s progress, we hope that they will inform us as soon as possible so we can ascertain the nature and level of the need and implement appropriate support.

Please see the attachment below to view the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Information Report. This report is updated annually and outlines the provision for pupils with SEND, including how we implement our policy. It includes information for identifying, assessing and implementing provision for pupils with SEND.
